Thee Magic of Felipe Gordon

Felipe Gordon

If music were alchemy, Felipe Gordon would be the mad scientist everyone secretly wants to invite to the lab. Based in Colombia's capital Bogotá, this renaissance man — producer, multi-instrumentalist, label head, and DJ — has an almost supernatural gift for fusing complex sound combinations, from jazz samples to flowing pianos and acid basslines, into hugely exciting and utterly unique house records. Since he began self-releasing his first remixes around 2014 on his own Nómada Records imprint, he has been slowly developing a style that peppers subgenres like acid, deep, and raw house with jazz and hip-hop elements, featuring plenty of solos and analog synth sounds. The result? Music that feels like it was brewed under a full moon with a very good record collection.

What makes Gordon's sound feel truly mystical is the way he refuses to be pinned down. His 2022 album Superimposition is a fusion of jazz, funk, and house, demonstrating his flexibility as an artist by blending lively and downtempo songs in a way that feels both surprising and inevitable. One moment you're nodding your head to a funky bassline, the next you're drifting off into a hazy jazz reverie — and somehow it all makes perfect sense. Exceedingly prolific, in little over a decade he released eight albums, a few dozen EPs, and over 100 singles and remixes — which, frankly, raises the question of whether he sleeps or simply recharges by standing near a vintage synthesizer.

On the live circuit, Gordon's spell-casting abilities only grow stronger. From III Points in Miami to the Tropico festival in Acapulco to the Baum Festival in Bogotá, he has consistently captivated new audiences and solidified his position as one of the most in-demand artists in the electronic and house music scenes. There's something wonderfully democratic about his music — it works equally well in a sweaty underground club or drifting out of a Sunday morning kitchen. Felipe Gordon isn't just making house music; he's building a whole house, furnished with Afro-Colombian soul, jazz mysticism, and enough groove to make the walls move.
